Life at SKC from a Former Intern

Hello!

My name is Bokyung Kim and I am from South Korea. My major is business administration at Korea University. Through the Korea WEST program, I was able to work at Start-Up Kid’s Club as a Program Development Intern. It was my first work experience and I am sure that it will be my best work experience I will ever had in my life. Because of COVID-19, I had to come back to my home country in the middle of the internship period but I experienced and learned a lot from Kaelin, Amber, and Start-Up Kid’s Club.

Living in Austin was one of the biggest challenges for me. I had already been to Japan and Singapore for each one semester but I was going to stay in Austin for over 8 months! It felt like riding a roller coaster. It was extremely fun and thrilling but on the other hand, scary. The internship was a big part of my Austin life so I felt relieved that I worked at Start-Up Kids Club. All the team members helped me not only with work, but also with how to adjust to Austin effectively by showing their lifestyle. Thanks to that, I went to so many events and got to know about Austin itself better.

When I went to Start-Up Kid’s Club for the first time to work, I was so panicked because I had never worked at a company before. I didn’t know what I should do, what was the right or wrong thing, and what I could do. But Amber and Kaelin tried to teach me a lot by giving me a diverse set of tasks. Sometimes I made mistakes but they usually said “it happens” so I continued having confidence while working at Start-Up Kid’s Club.

For 5 months, I assisted Kaelin’s work by creating documents, organizing the office, send mass emails, and so on. Also, I got the chance to go to a luncheon with Kaelin when Amber could not. I had never done something like that before so it was AWESOME! Some of the favorite things that I worked on was the events such as Pitch Yea!, SKC Market, etc. At that time, I realized that a successful event can be made by a lot of preparation.

Through my Start-Up Kid’s Club internship, I can’t tell everything I had learned because it was just too much! If you are interested in learning diverse things through the internship, don’t hesitate to apply for Start-Up Kid’s Club! I am sure that It would be the best opportunity for you to express and boost your potential!
